So... I received a private message earlier today on my business page, Faaria Boutique, from another business page with the following message:
Yes, very long message. Let's just go through it again, part by part. At the start, it actually seems promising. They promise that my ad will reach millions of people though their network of bloggers. Nothing wrong there. It's a great concept. And I guess it's fair that they are charging based on how many actual "likes" I get on my page, instead of how long the ad runs. No objections there either. And there's no time limit. As long as the "target" hasn't been reached, they'll keep running my ad until I get the amount that I paid for. OK. Fine.
Where it get's a little sticky is at the pricing. For "targeted ads", the rates start at RM200 for a measly 1,000 likes. Yikes! And if you want to get 10,000 likes (which I've already reached ^_^), you need to fork up RM1,800 (after a generous RM200 discount.. wow!). That is more than SIX TIMES what I paid Facebook for the 10,000 likes I got through FB ads. For that amount of money, I'd like to know HOW FAST they can get me that 10,000 likes. Notice that they only guarantee the amount of likes.. there's no TIME guarantee. So it could take a day, or it could take a year! Huh. And when I replied this person/entity, to ask how fast they can get me a certain number of likes... Guess what? No reply.
Anyway, on to the next point. Client history. This particular sentence is very clever: "Antara contoh client yang dibenarkan kebanyakkan minta dirahsiakan.". Haha. Come on, lah! If you want people to like your page why in the world would you want to keep it secret? Free marketing kan, kalau dijadikan contoh? Confirm banyak org akan visit your page. Betul tak? And then, dia cerita lah... "Sekian lama beriklan di FB, media akhbar hanya berjaya mendapat : 818 followers. Kos dikeluarkan banyak. Dengan servis kami : - Mereka bayar untuk RM100.00 untuk 1K followers. - Selesai 1,000 tambahan followers dalam masa 1hari. Malah dapat lebih dari 1,000". Which is quite unbelievable to me because FB ads got me my first 4,000 followers for about RM80 (now compare that to the RM800 they're charging for that many likes). But maybe that's just me. Maybe I got lucky. But still... couldn't have cost too much to get 818 followers...? Hmm...
Another thing that is putting me off is that all that they can really guarantee is that you will get the number of "likes" you want. There's absolutely no indication of how many of those "likes" will actually translate into sales. Of course, it's really difficult to predict, but they could have shown some stats to make their argument a little more convincing, right? And they haven't responded to any of my questions, which makes me even more sceptical. What if I pay RM3,500 to get an additional 40,000 likes and only end up making RM1,500 in sales? Who knows kan? Anyway, the point is moot as I can't even afford to spare that much at this stage. Haha. I'm sure that this scheme has worked for others before. But at this point in time, I'll have to pass. I did thank them for the information though.
